Binding Ties

Some see them as shackles,
chains tying them down,
enslaving, forbidding,
 dominating, domineering...
I was their leader,
they were my thoughts...

Hope is all I see
trust is all I sense
love is all I feel...
now... today,
I crave for safety,
embittered and battle weary ...

Secrets Unraveled Or Tangled....Part 2

I rushed down, almost colliding with the girl....the box dropped of my hands to be caught by the busily texting niece.
A cursory glance at the contents and a shrieking "where did you get these??" ...another lie...."My husband's valentine gift." and an afterthought "Do you live nearby?"... "Naah, visiting for the Hols" was the bored reply. “Where is your Aunt?" was sidetracked by “Which one? Mita Aunt is here too".
I, like others, had forgotten the twin who has drifted off after expulsion from business school. Classmates’ items had been found in her room. “What was he thinking? OMG! Elves are soooo 2009..." was the least of my worries....

Secrets

It was an overheard conversation that brought me here....a visit to my best friend from school. I was on vacation, back at the town where I grew up. I had to stifle the rumours….like before. Felt dirty, sneaking and searching like this. An involuntary gasp of shock escaped my lips when I opened the shoebox and saw the pointy-toed shoes...the expensive pair that went missing from the display at Doshi Uncle’s store. Guilt overwhelmed me…Were I and Shruti wrong in foolishly believing, shielding her often, long ago? The question haunted me as I went down the stairs to confront her

Reminders

The boxes were scattered around....some taped, some randomly filled up. She glanced at the small cardboard box lying at the far end of the drawer. Pulled it out, opening an assortment of things electrical: plugs, wires, tools and then those...
For four years they lay unused, two deaths, a bitter fight and a marriage ensured that they gathered dust....
This year was no different. They were shifting house, the bin of tangled up holiday lights were packed off with a glance and sigh. The tiny bulbs looked on sadly, awaiting the  day to blink and twinkle to their heart's content.

Memories

‘Do you know the story of the Three Magi and the Star?’ asked the 10 year old. ‘What about a story about Dhruva Nakshtra?’ replied the grandmother.

They listened in rapture about the child prince, scorned by his step mother, fighting for his father’s affection who sought and was  blessed by(the Hindu God) Vishnu, rewarded by the Rishis (holy men) for his devotion, steadfastness and perseverance to be the Pole Star…

She tracked the skies, as in past years…in an ever changing world; he became her symbol of permanency, like the love of family and friends, the happy memories rekindled.

Harry Potter and Deathly Hallows -1

Just back from watching HP7 ... My take on it...
Nice effects...the movie was quite close to the books but still quite a bit left out....
Not as good as the previous movies in my opinion..., The film dragged at places, the actors looked stiff in some parts....
never emotionally connected with the characters unlike the earlier ones.....
Somehow Voldemort and his death eaters especially at the Malfoy Manor didn't seem scary enough....
But loved the wand fights...and the scene at the ministry where the Golden Trio use polyjuice potion and also the scene of  8 Potters...
All in all it was an okay watch....hoping the finale is more gripping...

My Widgets Love

My blogging journey has brought out the kid in the candy store/toy store in me....the reason : my fascination for widgets/gadgets.

I keep adding, modifying and discarding them right and left...Sadly this spree also has heartbreak moments ...

Like saying adios to Darth Vader and Aristotle quotes as they slowed down my page.... so much so that even I had to spend many blank, anxious moments before my page loaded...giving up Sudoku was hard for an game addict like me but I spent more time on solving it than typing useful (??? who am I kidding) words...

But some stayed on like old friends who never quite exit from our lives....some ego boosting that show how much we are liked...some that tell the world that happens to peep in, what we believe in....

All in all they make up our blog as much as personal input does...

Its takes just a jiffy to admire those creative souls who make the job of presenting an aesthetically pleasing blog into " the blog art for dummies" .

And me...I am off to add a bookshelf to my story blog...... ;D

The Young Teacher

What is it about kids that makes us multifaceted and multitasking...recently I have become a horse, a dog, an elephant, Nemo even Sher khan (jungle book)  with sword fighting (read cricket bats) skills..
I have turned composer, on the spot story teller, walking talking dictionary...one swear word like shit and hell breaks loose...wonder if anyone knows the joys of being reprimanded by a 3 year old....
All in all , sometimes I feel I am back in school and at times like a 3 year old myself with fancy tricks up my sleeve....

Kind Souls

I journeyed forth,
ploughing through words...
Never contemplating,
but paused here and there,
wondering If I dared
to bare the chaos
that is my mind.

Kind souls won't let me flounder,
keep me afloat...
through the tides of convenience.
Make it meaningful...
Every fork end of tales I reach
These roads and forks traversed,
alone I started
but not any more...

Kind souls won't let me flounder,
keep me afloat...
through the tides of convenience.
Make it meaningful...

(To all those who have been with me as my walk progresses....)

Festivals And Holidays

Funny, its was Halloween in One part of the world last week and it will be festival of lights in another part this week....
Diwali is fond memories....waking up before dawn to burst crackers...new clothes that we paraded in...sweets gorged to the point of tummy aches...visitors galore...
those fun filled days are lost somewhere...
As I pass by the busy shoppers , the shops and malls.....it didn't feel good yet.....not till I booked for a family vacation....
Now I am truly in the holiday mood... off gallivanting ....
See you all in three weeks time...
by the way....don't forget my existence....

Like Arnie, I WILL BE BACK.......

Left Behind

You were my everything,
I meant nothing to you.

You smiled at new faces,
reaching over for a firm handshake.
A curt nod of the head
and a frown was all I got.

You spoke and laughed
with the ones  you had barely met.
An unwilling hello was all you spared
for each one of my efforts.

You dined and wined
with the best I could see.
As I watched seated
far away from you.

You were everything to me,
I meant nothing to you.

Soon it was time to walk away,
I was the one left behind
to find my own way back,
as has always been the case.

I stood there in the rain,
with tears tumbling down my face.
wondering when all those dreams
had slipped away beyond my grasp.

You were everything to me,
I meant nothing to you.

Adrift

A love so strong
how could it be
so wrong.

You were divine,
meant to be mine.
summer's grace
that was your face.

Flashing meadows,
gushing tides,
your laughter filling up
every site.

Felt you
in my arms,
felt you

in my soul.
A love so strong
how could it be
so wrong.

Come back,
come back from
from the void
 you have gone to.

Take me,
take me back
to the time
I was before.

A love so strong
how could it be
so wrong.

The Highway Notes

Standing on the highway,
watching life zoom by,
rushing to destinations
near and afar.
Left alone, left behind,
that was me

Leaning on the doorway,
watching people walk by,
homeward bound
they all are.
Left alone, left behind,
that was me.

Seated by the window,
 hearing some one talk,
finding a patient listener
how lucky have they got.
Left alone, left behind,
that was me.

Chatting on the social network,
seeing statements being made,
mutually beneficial exchanges
is the new magic word,
Left alone, left behind,
 that was me.

I end the day's notes,
sometimes high, sometimes low,
Pretending that wasn't you,
knowing that was definitely me....

The Outing

They felt that 'maybe she has woken up on the wrong side of the bed'....that would definitely explain her grumpiness and moodiness. Still, they had known her for more than a decade and guessed she was roughing it out. They left her at the food court to finish their shopping, asking her to place their orders .

She watched them go...felt bad for a lingering moment and started to sulk again...thinking sadly, 'wish I could tell you both'.  'Another bitter fight, will it ever end', she asked none in particular. She placed the orders, got the tokens, grabbed a seat and watched the world around as she waited.

All that she saw were happy faces, couples exchanging sweet looks and notes, kids scampering around, families conversing, teens chatting and giggling away.....'What right does the world have to be suffused in light and joy, when gloom surrounded her', she mused fuming.

He hadn't even bothered, nothing new there.....still it hurt ....she was a average girl with normal feelings, wasn't she? Not even a rose or a card, forget gifts...It reminded her of other years, times when others never forgot to wish on even silly days made up by Hallmark .....

As she sipped her cappuccino, she went on flashback mode..."her college days, rose day to be specific, as she watched girls swamped with flowers wondering if she would ever get one. Going home to find a letter from her cousin sister with a yellow rose inside with a note :"The rose you never got, the first rose from my new plant", which brought a smile to her face." Nothing's changed was her thought when a beep from her cell shook her off day dreaming.

" Petals once again, wishes you a happy birthday and hopes you liked the flowers" read the text....She stared ahead and laughed inspite of her self and reread the message. When her friends had first asked her about "her day" a week ago, she had kept quiet. On further prodding, she mentioned cooking for six people and spending the evening being forced to watch old films on telivision. She remembered her sister in law having the grace and decency to get her some flowers and a cake....

She gradually noticed a light tap on her shoulder and looked up to see a surly young  teen asking her what her problem was. She blinked in confusion when he went on, "Do we look funny? Why are you staring at us and laughing??". The light bulb light up and she replied meekly, with what she hoped was a friendly smile, a small lie, "I was just laughing over a joke some one passed on, sorry if I offended you " pointing to her cell.... The guy muttered a sad "Oh!! that's okay, my bad" and went off with a disappointed look of one who had missed the golden chance of a mall fight.

'Great, that's all I needed ' she muttered grimly to her friends who had returned  and stared after the boy, in shock. She narrated the thrilling story over their lunch . A hearty laugh and a movie later, she was on the way out, back to the grim palace.  But as she hugged and kissed her friends goodbye and clutched the belated gift they had given her, she went with a lighter heart, her grumpiness a thing of the past.
